offensive? i mean, i'm not putting any meaning behind those f-bombs, so they're harmless. however, one could imagine them to mean something (i won't list any examples; i'm sure you know most of them). then i probably shouldn't have typed all those "fucks," eh?

i think saying the word itself is "vile", as you put it.

but i think that because people carry the meaning behind the word, the word carries a power, even if the user did not mean it. people can use it without realizing it, but it can still offend others.
ReplyDeleteand i think this can be applied to all words, not just curse words. the fact that the letters f u c k arranged to the word fuck is an ambiguous thing, and it's all dependent on culture/context. it's just like how backward peace signs in Britain are the social equivalent of flipping someone off. if someone in Britain did that unknowingly, people would still take offense.
sorry for the ramble. a lot of my classes look at stuff like this lol; i'll stop now :D
